Step1.Greet the class
T: Good morning, boys and girls!
S: Good morning!
The teacher introduces himself/herself to the class first. Say, in this class, we’ll learn Unit 1 How often do you exercise?
Step2: Section A. Activity1a.
Say look at the picture. Then ask a few students to say what they see in the thought bubbles. Each thought bubble shows something a person does on weekends. Then name each activity. Ask students to repeat each one. Point out the sample answers. Then ask students to list all the activities in the thought bubbles.
Check the answers on the blackboard.
Step3 Activity 1b
Display a large calendar that shows days of the week. Tell students Saturday and Sunday are the weekend. Ask students to repeat weekend. Then show the new words on the screen. Teach the new words. Read the new words to the students. Ask the to repeat.
Ask students to listen to the conversation. Tell them that the people are talking about what they do on weekends. Then ask students to listen to the recording and write the letter of one activity after the word in the unit.
Make sure each student understands what to do. P lay the recording for the first time. Students only listen. Then play it a second time. This time ask students to complete the activity individually. Check the answers.
Step4. Activity 1c. Pairwork
First ask two students to read the sample in speech bubbles.
Then ask Ss to work with their partners. Then ask some pairs to present their conversations to the class.
Step5. Summary
This class we’ve learnt some names of activities: watching TV, reading skateboarding, exercising, shopping. And we’ve also learnt some adverbs of frequency: always, usually, often, sometimes, hardly, ever, never
Step6 Homework
1. Keep a diary showing what you do on weekends.
2. Finish off the workbook exercises.
